Aun are the least populous intelligent species in the Known World, and widely inhabit metropolitan areas. They are humanoid, but their bodies are inorganic. Aun are short, crystalline bipeds with inherent psychic ability. It is well understood that Aun are an artificial race that was created by some other species in the period before recorded history. They are inherently servile, possibly due to their natural psychic affinity making them highly empathetic and friendly. Though they have crystalline bodies, Aun at a glance look like regular children, and it is known that they tailor their appearances to match their host culture, looking like elves where appropriate and prum elsewhere, etc. Closer inspection will reveal their semi-translucent "skin" and softly glowing "hair". In spite of the crystalline and inorganic structure of their bodies, they do have soft tissue and some kind of organ system.
Aun have no nation of their own, and do not typically form communities. Because of their inherent disposition towards servility, they are often exploited by other species, though it is rare that Aun feel begrudged about this, even in the all-too-frequent case that they are pressed into abject slavery.
It is unclear how exactly Aun reproduce, as they themselves seem to only vaguely understand the process, but it seems similar to the process of budding in plant life. Aun will grow out their "hair" to a certain point for their entire lives, and only when they are driven to reproduce, will they cut it, producing something like an egg. Like eggs, they must be incubated after a fashion, though it is not heat, but psychic energy which sustains them.
